London: How to Get Cheap Theatre Tickets

A trip to London would not be complete without taking in a West End show. However, these can be very expensive, with the priciest seats regularly selling for upwards of £65 each. Most theatres also have more affordable ticket options available for each show, with the cheapest seats usually available from £15.

London Theatre Day Seats

Most theatres also offer ‘day seats’ – often the front row – that are sold daily at the theatres’ box office opening time for shows the same day. These are usually well priced (£30 maximum), though not everyone is willing to get a last-minute ticket.

Half Price Ticket Booth – TKTS

TKTS, located in Leicester Square, is another fantastic option. Open year-round, this theatre ticket booth is the official seller of tickets for all of London’s shows. Plus, you can save up to 50% on shows if you buy the tickets on the day of the performance. Check their website at www.tkts.co.uk to see which tickets are on sale today, tomorrow and later in the week, as well as their prices.

You will also see other discounted theatre booths in central London, particularly around Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square. Check their authenticity, and if it all checks out, you could save a lot of money.

Discounted London Theatre Ticket Season

A couple of times a year, the theatres all club together for discounted theatre events, with tickets available for almost every show. In January and February each year, www.getintolondontheatre.co.uk offers amazing deals from just £10 on big shows (top-priced tickets are capped at £40 maximum), whereas www.kidsweek.co.uk offers ‘kids go free’ deals to shows in August (up to the age of 16). These tickets must be pre-booked online and carry no booking fees.

TodayTix App

Finally, the TodayTix smartphone app often has excellent deals – with London theatre lotteries and ‘rush’ day tickets available. This is usually our first stop as you can do everything right on your phone.
